As Lost has its long await season four premier, I throw a mini Lost party to celebrate the show. As we discuss the show, we find many intriguing new plot points and several unresolved issues that still bug the hell out of us.
Flash Forwards
The advent of “flashforwards” seems to be a mainstay for the show. It’s an interesting concept, though the real trick is that the show’s writers could simply be working on a different timeline, for instance, a future timeline, then revisiting the island as a “flashback.” By doing this, the show is able to wrap up the story at some point with a grand resolution, keeping the show’s canon on track until the end. My prediction is that somewhere between the fifth and sixth seasons, the timelines will eventually merge into one and we’ll be left without flashbacks or flashforwards.
Oceanic Six
Who? What? As Hurley rips through the Los Angeles city streets in his Camaro, one of my guests blurts out that it must be Hurley. A man pours a glass of orange juice in his kitchen and I suggest if it had a little vodka in it, the character would be Jack. Two seconds later—a splash of vodka. So we know of four potential Oceanic Six characters: Jack, Kate, Hurley, and guy who died last season. I’m assuming that the dead guy is Michael—this is a popular guess amongst Lost fans.
Creepy Black Guy That Growls
Is this man a lawyer working for Oceanic? Or is he apart of a much more sinister plot? He seems to be attempting to extract some sort of information from Hurley. What makes this creepy guy special is the fact that he seems to growl at Hurley and then disappears. That information has yet to be explained, but it seems to involve the location of people, or possibly the location of the island. Jack later comes to visit Hurley and they play a game of HORSE. Jack loses with an HO and decides to leave. Coincidently H is the 8th letter of the alphabet and O is the 15th. What does that spell? Oceanic, Flight 815.
What else is in store for us this season? I’m guessing new characters and new storylines, which brings a question from all the fans to the writers: Will it ever end? What the hell is the black smoke monster? I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.
