I caught one of the last days of the Takashi Murakami exhibit at MOCA and it was well worth the trip!

Art Review: Takashi Murakami
Being quite a fan of the Pop Art theme, I took in the Takashi Murakami exhibit while it was showing at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) here in Los Angeles. The building fit the collection rather well – a simple, spacious warehouse-like housing that allowed the remarkable color and character of the artist come out.

Upon entrance visitors were immediately tested by some very in-your-face statues. At first, they look like silly, anime pieces smiling at the crowd. Look for a moment and it hits you – they are nude and there is an abundance of *ahem* liquid encircling them from strategic points on their bodies.

Through each room of the exhibit the vibrant colors and happy expressions of the paintings and sculptures was surreal. At times it felt like an ethereal movie set filled with a massive crowd of admirers. The Louis Vuitton room showed the fusion of the classic handbags with colorful design. Visitors were also treated to an animated short, an upcoming movie trailer, and Murakami’s collaboration with Kayne West.

Overall, the exhibit was excellent and the work admirable. Check out the book of the collection – well worth the cost!  So you see, my friends, I do have other interests that don't involve sports!
