I was short for my weight standing 5′11″ and weighing in at 238 pounds just two years ago at my heaviest and I feared that going over the 240 mark could mean elastic waistbands into my distant future and I was not about to let that happen! I was short for my weight standing 5′11″ and weighing in at 238 pounds just two years ago at my heaviest and I feared that going over the 240 mark could mean elastic waistbands into my distant future and I was not about to let that happen! So I decided to harness my own compulsions and use them to work for me instead of against me.

I changed my diet to eating nothing but meat and vegetables until the last 7 days of the month when I could eat anything I wanted. Believe it or not, this worked very well for about the first 15 pounds over the course of about 5 months and then I plateaud for a couple of months. That is when I threw a bit of exercise into my routine. Something I did NOT want to do!

Nonetheless, I was determined to see the underside of 200 pounds within the coming year so I reluctanly began walking about a mile every morning before I began my day. Within a few more months I found myself at 210 pounds and plataued once again for a few months. That’s when I knew I had to stop eating Kentucky Fried Chicken.

So I managed to lose another 5 pounds over the next month and plataued yet again. That’s when I cut myself down to just one item at Panda Express. 2 months later, I weighed in at 196 pounds and celebrated breaking the 200 mark by taking my wife to dinner at Louise’s Trattoria on Melrose in Hollywood and eating pasta until I couldn’t walk.

I am now hovering around 190 pounds and my target weight is 180 pounds. It has been a long journey thus far, but I am not about to stop until I have reached that 180 magic number. At that point, I am thinking that I will keep my diet, but perhaps make it one week on / one week off sort of thing, just to maintain. I haven't decided.

If you have compulsions in your life, they can be the most destructive elements imaginable, or if you learn how to focus them and make them work for you rather than against you, I firmly believe they can lead you to great success! I hope to become living proof of this very, very soon! You don't get fat overnight, so don't get discouraged when you try a couple of things and don't see much in the way of results. You have to get in for the long haul and there are ways to do it and still get to enjoy the foods and activities (or lack thereof) that you enjoy.

P.S. The low carb Six Dollar Burger / lettuce wrap at Carl’s Junior totally rocks! I get it without the cheese and mayo though. (you can also order it with an extra patty!). If you find a combination Carls Jr. / Green Burrito you have hit the jackpot! You can add tons of awesome salsas to your low carb burger and really rock it out!
