Last month, my water heater broke. This month, there's a huge leak in my spare bathroom and quite a leak from my cold water shower stem. Many of the things that go wrong with my home can be fixed easily.

The water heater proved to be quite a chore last month, so I had someone else help me with it. But when the leak in my shower stem got worse and worse, I simply went to home depot to pick up some rubber washers.

It's fairly easy to fix every day leaks. All you have to do is take stuff apart and make sure you got all the right tools!

Step 1. Shut off the water.
Step 2. Turn the faucets on. This will help prevent damage to the seat which closes the valve and shuts off the water. If you damage the seat, you need a new stem--I'll get back to this.
Step 3. Get the cap off the knob then unscrew it from the stem.
Step 4. Pull the bonnet and the stem off.
Step 5. OH NO, my seat is the problem!
Step 6. Run to the hardware store and buy a seat.
Step 7. Screw it, I'll get a new set instead ($40 later).
Step 8. Go home and pull that old stem off.
Step 9. Put it all back together.
Step 10. Turn the water back on and check your work.

That's 10 steps to fixing my home plumbing woes. It's easy, I think you can do it too!
